Part of my Thesis, 'Unfamiliar Familiars' is a series of illustrations that imagines and considers the presence and energy of national animals as familiars that assist witches in magic for good and selfless purposes.

“Your Future is in Your Hands” shows the Hispaniolan Trogons tattooed on the healer’s hands assisting in telling fortunes using an orbuculum. Hibiscus flowers grow and flourish in the presence of the healer performing magic in Haiti.

In Haiti, Obeah is a blend of magic and religion that originated in the Caribbean during the slave trade, it came from West Africa. Healers use spells to make predictions, this magic includes communication with ancestors and spirits and healing rituals. Orbuculum are crystal spheres used to tell fortunes.
